Creating links in the Console
A link (also called a dynamic link) is a URL on your project’s domain, for example https://your-project.dynalinks.app/products/5. When someone opens it, Dynalinks opens your app if it is installed, and otherwise sends them to the App Store, Google Play, a fallback URL or your website, depending on how the link is set up.
This page walks through the link form in the Console. You can also create the same links with the REST API, or build them on the fly as unnamed links. See Named vs unnamed links for the differences.
Creating, editing, duplicating and deleting links requires the owner or manager role on the project. Viewers can browse the list and copy links. See Team members & roles.
Create a link
- Open your project in the Console.
- Click Links in the top bar.
- Click Add new.
- Fill in the form (described below) and click Create Link.
The form is split into sections: Basic Information, Mobile Apps, Social Media, Marketing & Tracking and Advanced Settings.
On the Basic plan a project can have up to 100 links. The Pro plan has no limit.
Basic Information
Name
An internal label for the link, for example “Spring sale banner”. It is shown in the links list and can be used to search. Visitors never see it. Links without a name appear as Untitled in the list.
Url
The destination on the web. The hint in the form reads: “This link will be open if user clicks on the link on a desktop.”
It is also used:
- on mobile, when the link has no iOS or Android app attached,
- in the link’s social preview tags (see Social previews).
It must be a full http:// or https:// URL.
Path
The part of the link after your domain. The form shows your domain in front of the field, for example https://your-project.dynalinks.app/, with products/5 as the placeholder.
Your iOS and Android apps receive the full link when it opens them, so you can read the path and take the user to the right screen. See Receiving link in your app.
Path rules:
- The path is required and must start with a letter, digit or hyphen. Do not type a leading
/. - Stick to letters, digits and hyphens, with
/between segments:products/5,promo/spring-2026. - You can add a query string at the end, for example
products?id=5. - A trailing
/is removed when you save. - Each path must be unique within the project.
If your links carry extra query parameters (for example UTM tags added by an ad network), see Supporting query params to control which ones are ignored when a link is looked up.
Shortened path
Pro feature
URL shortening is only available on the Pro plan.
This field only appears when you edit an existing link. Click Generate next to it to create a short alternative path, such as https://your-project.dynalinks.app/4vsz. Both the full path and the shortened path open the same link.
Clicking Generate saves a new shortened path right away. If the link already had one, the old short URL stops working.
More in URL shortening.
Mobile Apps
iOS app to open
Pick one of the iOS apps registered in your project. The list shows bundle identifiers. Leave it at None if the link should not open an iOS app.
Android app to open
Pick one of the Android apps registered in your project. The list shows package names. Leave it at None if the link should not open an Android app.
If the project has no apps yet, the form shows Add new iOS app or Add new Android app buttons. Setup is described in iOS setup and Android setup.
If a link has neither an iOS nor an Android app, every visitor is sent to the Url, including on mobile.
Social Media
These fields control how the link looks when it is shared in messaging apps and social networks.
| Field | Used for |
|---|---|
| Social title | The preview title, and the page title of the link’s preview page |
| Social description | The preview description |
| Social image url | The preview image. Must be a full http:// or https:// URL. |
Details, tag names and image recommendations are in Social previews.
Marketing & Tracking
Referrer
Pro feature
The referrer field is only available on the Pro plan.
A value passed to Google Play as the install referrer, for example utm_source=google&utm_medium=banner. Your Android app can read it after install through the Google Play Install Referrer API. It has no effect on iOS.
It is only added when Dynalinks builds the Google Play URL itself. If you set an Android fallback URL, it is not added. See Fallback URLs.
Apple Provider Token and Apple Campaign Token
Pro feature
Apple campaign tracking is only available on the Pro plan.
Tokens for App Store campaign tracking in App Store Connect:
- Apple Provider Token: your provider token, for example
123456. - Apple Campaign Token: a name for the campaign, for example
holiday2024.
The two must be used together. When both are set, Dynalinks adds them to the App Store URL it builds for the link. They are not added to an iOS fallback URL.
Advanced Settings
Enable forced redirect
When checked, users who do not have your app installed skip the preview page and go straight to the App Store or Google Play. See Forced redirect.
iOS deferred deep linking
The hint in the form reads: “If enabled, device fingerprint will be collected when the user taps “Download on App Store”. Your iOS app can later retrieve the original link by matching the fingerprint via the SDK.”
This lets your app open the right content on first launch after install. See iOS deferred deep linking. It relies on the preview page, so avoid combining it with forced redirect.
iOS fallback URL and Android fallback URL
Where to send users who do not have the app installed, instead of the App Store or Google Play. Both must be full http:// or https:// URLs. See Fallback URLs.
The links list
Links in the top bar opens the list of links in the project. The header shows the total number of links.
For each link you see:
- Name (or Untitled),
- Path, with the shortened path below it in green if the link has one,
- Clicks,
- Created at.
Click a column header to sort by it. Use Filters to search by Name or Path. Both filters match any part of the value, and the list updates as you type. Click Clear to reset them.
If the project has links but no iOS or Android apps, the list shows a warning: links will not open your app on mobile until you add at least one app.
Link actions
Click the three dots at the end of a row to open the actions menu:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Copy Link | Copies the full link URL |
| Copy Short Link | Copies the short URL (only when the link has a shortened path) |
| Copy ID | Copies the link’s ID, which you need for API calls such as GET /api/v1/links/{id} |
| Edit | Opens the link form |
| Duplicate | Opens a new link form prefilled from this link |
| Delete | Deletes the link |
Edit a link
Choose Edit in the actions menu, change the fields and click Update Link.
The link URL stays the same unless you change the Path, so you can update the destination, apps, fallback URLs or social fields of a link that is already printed or shared.
Changing the Path changes the link’s URL. Anyone using the old URL will no longer reach this link. The shortened path, if any, keeps working.
Messaging apps and social networks cache previews. After you change the social fields, see Refreshing a preview.
Duplicate a link
Choose Duplicate in the actions menu. A new link form opens with all settings copied from the original link, except:
- Path: empty, because each path must be unique,
- Shortened path: not copied. You can generate one after you save the new link.
Enter a path, adjust anything else, and click Create Link. The duplicate counts toward the link limit on the Basic plan.
Delete a link
Choose Delete in the actions menu and confirm. Deleting cannot be undone.
After deletion, both the full and the shortened URL of the link return a “not found” response, unless you have set a root URL for the project in Settings > Advanced Settings, in which case visitors are redirected there.
