Appearance settings

When someone opens one of your links in a browser, Dynalinks serves a link page (the preview page with your link’s title, description, image and store buttons). Besides the visible content, that page includes meta tags in its HTML head that browsers and other apps read. Appearance Settings let you turn two groups of those tags off for the whole project.

To change them, open your project, go to Settings, choose Advanced Settings and click Edit Appearance Settings. Only the project Owner and Managers can open Advanced Settings (see Team members and roles).

The Advanced Settings page shows the current state of both options:

  • Apple iTunes App meta tag: Visible or Hidden
  • Facebook App Links meta tags: Enabled or Disabled

Both options are off by default, so both groups of tags are included. Changes apply to all links in the project as soon as you click Update Appearance Settings.

Hide Apple iTunes App meta tag

By default, if the iOS app on a link has an App store ID, the link page includes an apple-itunes-app meta tag:

<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=123456789">

Safari on iOS reads this tag and shows a Smart App Banner at the top of the page, offering to download (or open) your app.

If the iOS app also has an App Clip Bundle ID, the same tag points to your App Clip, so iOS can show an App Clip card instead:

<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=123456789, app-clip-bundle-id=com.example.app.Clip, app-clip-display=card">

Check Hide Apple iTunes App meta tag to leave this tag out. The Smart App Banner and the App Clip card no longer appear on your link pages. The App Store button on the page is not affected.

Consider hiding it if the banner duplicates your own App Store button, or if it gets in the way of your page design.

By default, the link page includes App Links meta tags. Facebook and other apps that support App Links use them to open your app directly, or send users to the store, when a link is tapped inside their app.

Depending on how your iOS and Android apps are configured, the tags look like this:

<meta property="al:ios:url" content="myapp://example.dynalinks.app/...">
<meta property="al:ios:app_store_id" content="123456789">
<meta property="al:ios:app_name" content="My App">
<meta property="al:android:url" content="myapp://example.dynalinks.app/...">
<meta property="al:android:package" content="com.example.app">
<meta property="al:android:app_name" content="My App">
<meta property="al:web:url" content="https://www.example.com/">
  • al:ios:url and al:android:url are only included when the app has a Custom URL Scheme.
  • The app names come from the app’s App name field, or the project name if that field is empty.
  • al:web:url is the link’s URL.

Check Disable Facebook App Links meta tags to leave all of these tags out.

This setting only removes the App Links tags. The social preview tags that control the title, description and image shown when a link is shared (Open Graph and Twitter Card tags) are always included.

Appearance settings only switch individual tags on or off. To design the whole link page yourself, with your own HTML and CSS, see Page templates.
